Soft layoffs at ProServe today ?
Although Amazon has instituted a hiring freeze and layoffs are probably on their way, I went through the loop for a security engineer position at AWS. Before I attended the final interviews, Amazon placed the hiring freeze and called me to ask if I wanted to go ahead or cancel my application. I decided do go ahead Right now I'm waiting for their response and the position I applied to changed from "under consideration" to "no longer under consideration". Thoughts?

Is it big 4 or MBB? You’re definitely not alone in your feelings. I didn’t do well at my first consulting job and found it extremely difficult. I actually got put on a PIP after just under a year. I found a less stressful job in industry, and took the time to do a lot of self work, learn technology, and get some certifications, etc. Almost two years later, I’m feeling more confident in my abilities. I am actually considering an offer to return to consulting in a higher level role. TBH, I’m actually having similar worries again that I won’t be able to handle consulting due to my previous bad experience. My brain tells me that’s not rational due to how I’ve improved though.
If you’re worried about never being able to recover after getting fired, that’s not rational. The job market is rough, but eventually you will find another job. Nobody will know you were put on a PIP or fired. They just verify employment dates I think.
People get fired/laid off all the time in this economy. It’s a shitty feeling, but you will definitely bounce back.
If you’ve lasted 2 years at MBB, I’m sure you are doing fine :)
Over 25 years in MBB and Big4 consulting. Former is up or out and yes, it’s effectively a rolling 6 month contract with zero security. Yes you are always anxious but that’s how it should be. You’re only as good as your last game and there is a steady stream of younger players coming through hungry for your spot on the team.
But trust me, Big 4 is worse. No up or out but it’s dead man’s shoes and dead wood colleagues. Being blocked for promotion is far more stressful.

What kind of feedback are you getting? Is your utilization okay? Rarely do you get blindsided. If you're getting good reviews, and your staying staffed, tell you anxiety to chill. All that anxiety will impact your performance. Focus on what's in your control. The job has enough stresses. Don't make more up.

Op. Nothing in your head counts. The question is, are you making the same mistakes or learning from them.
