Is it typical for big 4 firms to take a while to reach out after one submits an app? For context, it’s been about a month or so and I have not heard anything, my status shows under review… all apps had referrals as well and they were for consultant and senior consultant roles. Any insight would be great, thanks! EY Accenture Deloitte

Can you explain more about what you mean by “in one capacity or another”? I worked for small consulting firm (not HR consulting) for the first 8 years of my where I ran operations and HR as well as having consulting clients. When I finally made the leap to more “traditional “ HR roles, it was hard to land that first job because people could not think outside the box about the experience I had and how it directly related to HR. I finally got a HR Director position at a firm. Could it be that all the experience you have is not translating on paper? What steps have you taken to utilize your network for finding your next gig?
I started my career in smaller or start up companies and it was really hard to break into a brand name organization. I work for a name brand professional services firm that now only wants to hire HRBPs with accounting and Big 4 experience. They are almost never as creative and resourceful as the HR people who built careers in different industries and companies (with less money, that were more agile, more entrepreneurial, etc) as one or 2 man shops. Keep interviewing and use your contacts.
That does seem rather curious. Are you trying to transition from a generalist to a management or specialist role?
I would like to transition into an HR Manager role. I am a department of one and handle all HR responsibilities for 60 employees. I handle recruitment, onboarding, benefits, compensation, performance management, union/labor relations, disciplines, retention, health & safety, compliance, policy implementation....the list is large. I have been in HR Admin/Coordinator roles. I have worked as a recruiter, I have worked in small/large and non-profits. It’s just frustrating to apply for positions and never hear a word...only to see the position reposted and I have to reapply. I have a thirst for knowledge and a desire to be more than I am.
When I’m hiring a HR Pro I always look at who they interacted with at their previous/current jobs. I work for a mid-sized construction company and I work closely with senior management, CEO and other key decision makers of the company. Since you are an HR department of 1, try playing up your experience working with upper management.
I really lean on my experience working with VP’s and my innovation expertise when applying for jobs.
