I applied to an investment bank and quoted a fixed CTC range of x to x+5 LPA. HR said they would record it as x to x+1 LPA due to budget constraints, and interviews proceeded. I’m now close to receiving the offer, with salary negotiation pending. Should I expect x+1, or is there realistic room to push toward x+5? Do HRs typically keep some buffer at the initial stage for negotiation?

Depends on what is the value of x w.r.t your current salary. If the value of x is 8-10, then the range becomes vague....if value of x is 50, then it appears narrow
