I currently work as a Data Analyst and have the option to move up to either a Data Manager (DM) or a Data Engineer (DE) role. Both roles are individual contributor positions, and I wouldn't be managing any people in either role.

Assuming all other things equal, would it be harder for me to now take the DM role and then try to go to a DE role, or would it be harder to take the DE role now and move to a DM role later? Worried mostly about the skills I'd build and how recruiters would see it.
