If I had to go into the office every day and stay there until 8 or 9 pm I basically would never work out and would be sacrificing sleep to get chores done (or spending all weekend catching up). I’d probably quit biglaw after a year if that was the case. I am still not shooting for partner by any means but WFH will definitely give me a few more years than I would have had in me otherwise.
That’s exactly what happened. You either stayed up late trying to frantically do chores or work out or you pushed everything to the weekend and spent the entire weekend catching up on chores and errands and never doing anything fun. Don’t get me wrong, work still sucks. But doing it at home does make it immensely more bearable.

Things were easier before Covid because there was less expectation to answer emails after you went home unless it was for a closing. Now there are no boundaries.

To me that isn’t helpful if I am working until 9 pm. I’d rather be on call 24/7 than stay in the office until 9 pm every night.
I wonder if they want us back in so more of us end up leaving at pre-Covid rates. They need to keep the attrition rate at a certain point or we get too expensive and cut into their profits.
Nope. Not true at all. Senior associates are the most profitable and most reliable. We want to keep you. Partners are getting pressure from some clients for meetings and to be back in the office. Google the Morgan Stanley letter sent to law firms to get back in the office. The airlines want everyone back so people will return to flying, etc.
You get breaks? 😥 I use my breaks to do the non urgent stuff on my other deal

I used to use a whole Sat morning running errands, laundry. Now I slot them in during the week. Much better!
