Also not interested in sales. Interviewing for a tax director position in a large privately held company. So done with answering to a dozen different clients and working 80 hour weeks half the year.
I'm just not really into the sale side of things, and I prefer more doing the work to heavy client involvement. I'm not planning on leaving any time soon, just curious about options, but I'm currently a senior. I do general tax, no real specialty yet.
This exact same thought was the reason why I’m abandoning tax all together. Did job search for a month for an industry accountant position, because I just don’t like the idea of getting pigeonholed in tax. Will start my new position in two weeks. Getting the hell out of this tax season nightmare
Depends on your specialty but almost all big companies have a tax dept. I work at a F500 company and our tax dept is pretty robust and full of former PA people. I was formerly in Audit and work in the accounting dept and interact with tax folks pretty regularly. They all seem pretty happy being there.
Why? Not judging, just truly curious to get your POV
Not all PA firms required biz dev. Don’t limit yourself on what’s possible
I honestly like tax. I'm just not sure what to do with it after one too many busy seasons burns me out. How would you even go for industry tax department jobs? How do you find them, how do you prepare for them, etc? I know audit tends to go to former clients, but I don't think that's likely in tax on any clients I've worked on yet, at least.
Yeah, what group are you in and how many years have you been in public?
Same PWC2 going through the same process right bow
Pwc1-what other possibilities? Wouldn't if you make partner you need to bring in new business?
At director and partner levels, biz dev is required in client service. Pwc1 what are you referring to?
At BDO 1, not if there was agreement within the partnership that there are different roles that play to different partner strengths. I haven’t always been at PwC and I’ve seen other alternatives to how the B4 operates. If someone loves tax and not BD, they need to get out and explore to find what will suit them.
