I failed FAR five years ago (71) and never got back into being consistent. I now have audit, technical accounting, and financial reporting experience from the big four (audit + deals), and now operational accounting and fp&a experience in my role as a manger at a PE portco. I want to get the CPA done now as I notice you need it to move to larger companies. How long do you think each exam will take provided I study 2 hours every weekday and 4 each day on the weekends?

Mainly thinking it should be easier now since I have a much better understanding of accounting

Depends on if you have a “busy season” in your current role where you would stop studying. I think the easiest is 2 per summery with a busy season where you start studying late April for test one take test one in July, start studying for test 2 in July and take test 2 in Oct. Then rinse repeat next summer. If you don’t have those constraints you could follow that path all the way through and have it faster assuming all passing grades. That is what I did and it worked for me. Becker provides a tool for planning out your tests based on study time if you have access, not sure if it would be available without but I’m assuming there are other tools online. Best of luck to you!

I’m so tired of US companies hiring remote Canadian employees offering to pay a fraction of the price for the same role.

This is consistent across the majority of the tech companies. While I am looking to exit consulting, don’t want to be paid 50% of what my colleagues would be making across the border.

I’m trying to transfer departments at my company and I talked to the MD of the department i wanna transfer to, and told him working remotely is a requirement to me, and he said he’s not sure if that’s possible, and that would depend on HR and the hiring manager. He still forwarded my resume to HR and I got an interview. How should I negotiate to make the role fully remote?

I applied for a Director Learning and Development (L&D) role at McKinsey about a month ago via a referral. About a week ago, my McKinsey employee (who referred me) received an automated email saying that I had moved to the pre-screening process of the recruitment process and that I'll hear from the recruiter shortly.

It's more than a week now and I haven't heard back. Can anyone shed light on the process -- what to expect, timelines, what is the interview process like, etc.

Thanks!

I interviewed with a company last week and the interviewer said he would submit my notes to the hiring manager and I would hear back this Monday from HR on next steps/if they want to move forward. I didn’t hear back yesterday so I emailed HR and she said she wasn’t part of the hiring decision so would reach out to the initial interviewer for his feedback. I haven’t heard from her and it’s been 24 hours - starting to get worried. What should I do? Does this mean they’re not interested?

I am a 3rd year senior associate in alternative investment tax and up for manager promotion this year. I really dislike the long hours of this job and seeking to make a move. Although I’m not sure i necessarily want to stay in tax. I have a young toddler at home and want to find a job i like, makes decent money, and has decent hours so i can spend more time with family.

Has anyone been in a similar position and made a move? Can you please share your experience? Thanks!

I interviewed for an employed role and knocked my business plan pitch out the park, but could tell I disappointed them with my technical. By my own admission I’m lacking in this area as only have 1.5 years experience with a poor manager who only had me focus on biz dev.

They asked me what my salary expectations are but had already hinted my experience would knock me down a pay grade.

As it was 4 of them and 1 of me I said I would email them. How do I play this without lowballing myself?
