I feel like you and I are cut from the same cloth. I’m just like this. I found my purpose in learning and development but I don’t think my current industry (healthcare) is for me.
Are you asking for help to find meaning in the work you’re doing or purpose in your life? I would caution against tying your identity to your job. Humans want to find meaning in their work, but our purpose as human beings is so different.
Do you want to find a high paying job as a recruiter? That’s a little different. You may have to look in another industry (sometimes that makes a difference). You might also have to do a little research on what your salary targets are.
Feel free to DM me if you want to talk more. I’d love to help.
IMO there will always be some degree of emotional labor involved in your role (especially HR/recruitment as you are essentially customer service & marketing rolled into one). BUT, that should not mean that you experience lack of fulfillment, & enough stress and anxiety to make you sick over it.
Do a bit of a soul search- maybe employ a mentor- to find out what it is about your role that may be causing problems/stress and analyze the fit of your role. Is it the role or environment? Company? Industry? Not every day will be rainbows but picture a scenario where you could call yourself content long term….
Totally understand where you’re coming from- having spent most of my time in earlier stage startups where there’s a lot of grunt work and building from scratch. While it’s exciting and fulfilling to come in to an organization where the bar is literally on the floor and raise it significantly, it’s also completely draining at times. I’ve thought about going to a larger org with more structure where I can kind of “coast” a little more many times (not saying I’m lazy but just an environment where everything doesn’t hinge on just me). Happy to chat if you need a listening ear ❤️
More than that I feel what you must be feeling
Have you considered talking to someone about how you are feeling? I know when I was in a really bad place work-wise a few years ago, I seeing a therapist worked wonders for me. Hang in there.
Talk to a therapist.
Sometimes, we just need spill out all the murkiness in our head. And a therapist helps you unravel the chaos, and connect the dots.
I don’t like talking about my problems with people around me, so therapy works wonders!
THIS! Therapy is SO useful.
I relate so much to you! Co-signing on getting a mentor. I’ve got someone to talk to at work now and it’s just good to hear that I’m not the only person in the entire org who is perceiving things a certain way.
I wish we had that in my company! It would definitely help than spending $$ to speak with a therapist. I’m glad you feel better!
Dm me I’m happy to talk with you if you need. I’ve been in a similar position.
I am incredibly sorry to hear this but don't worry, I can guarantee many of us have been where you are. It's always good to take a step back and consider what you truly want from a role and what you're getting at the moment. Maybe it's time to think about something new?
Sorry to hear that! Have you thought about getting an advanced degree to help advance your career? Take it easy though, at the end of the day your mental health is more important than how much money you're making!
