AV tends to require editing skills in the standard video software. If they’re interviewing you knowing you don’t have those skills, they might be trying something new or looking at you for a junior role? Editors tend to be the art directors in AV since it’s way more cost effective to have an editor making creative choices
They have entertainment client? Or is it completely different animal. As an AD in entertainment side do I need to know motion software like after effect, premier, maya, cinema 4d? If you are CD in an entertainment agency would you hire an Ad from advertising industry who doesn’t know above programs? I know photoshop, illustrator and Indesign with heavy design and conceptual skills. I have also done tv and social video. How can we transition with my current skills?
* I
It’s a different animal. I came up in those entertainment agencies and while a LOT of the skills are transferable, the application and vocabulary is different. Your learning curve will need to be steep, but it’s definitely not impossible. Sounds like you have a range of skills that are immediately applicable, but do know that a lot of those agencies divvy up work between very siloed depts. So print/key art has their own AD and design team, AV has their own producers, writers,editors, animation people, etc. they haven’t had to integrate and rarely will you work on a full campaign. Work comes in on a project by project basis by department, so you have to really be choosy with how you want to transition your skills. Does that make sense?
Thank you, do I have know any video software like premier, After Effect, Maya, Cinema 4D if I want to get in to A/V department? I have interview coming up with one and the more I know the better. Although I have the skill set it feel like a different career path.
No they don’t know anything about my skills beside seeing my book.
