1. Yes it counts
2. You have to actually want to do it. Stop making it a chore. Find something you enjoy and give yourself a break if you don’t do it. Too much pressure on your self = shutting it down
Think of it as harm reduction, not an improvement. Like brushing your teeth, that something seriously bad will happen to you if you don't work out. Then hit your rhythm and keep hitting it.
Heh it's a mental trick that's worked for me. I'm a natural risk manager but terrible at working out consistently.
One step forward. Each little thing counts. Today it’s a bike ride. Tomorrow half a dozen pushups, as long as you don’t have a zero sum day, you’re making progress and it counts.
That said, there are more hours in the day than you realize. Wake up early or go to bed late, re prioritize things, make time for just yourself, or get an accountable friend that forces you to go so they go.
Lots of ways to go about it, but start small and keep it consistent until it becomes habit and you do it second nature.
Mornings are best for me. I find morning workouts give me energy for the rest of the day. When I get off work I already simply don't feel like I have as much energy to get it done.
Rising Star
Quarantine isn't ending anytime soon, so start small and set incremental goals. 10 pushups a day for, every day is better than a full circuit workout that you do once or twice and lose motivation.
I recently moved to a new city for the short-term. I feel you, meant to do an active lifestyle but work is exhausting.
I think at the end of the day, it’s what you make of it. I was just being lazy and didn’t push myself. Once you start, it’s much easier!
Of COURSE your bike ride counts! Find workouts that you enjoy and it’ll feel less like a chore. I used to workout at the gym a lot and now with covid my workout consist of going on walks while listening to podcasts. I’ve come to terms with it!
Bike ride counts for sure. Like others have said start small. What I did at the beginning of the quarantine when gyms were closed was I’d take a break every so often and do 15-25 pushups each time before doing anything else.
I didn’t work out at all before quarantine. I now workout 5 days/wk by doing the following:
a) Find a time of day that works for you and stick to it roughly. Eg. Choose mornings/afternoon/evening based on when you feel most motivated
b) Time out your eating so that being hungry cannot be an excuse to skip
c) Use a workout app (I use Nike) and select instructed workouts that last 10min (and build up from there). By doing higher intensity in a shorter amount of time, I can fit this into anywhere in my schedule
d) For the first 2 weeks, force yourself to workout on pre-determined days. I promise it gets easier for the majority of the time once you’ve created this habit
I did 20 mins elliptical today and 10 mins abs. Was so happy to come back here and report haha
Happy for you. Day one coming back odd the hardest.
It’s all about priorities. Don’t beat yourself up if the things you’re doing everyday are higher priority than working out. If they aren’t, still don’t beat yourself up. There’s always tomorrow.
I wake up early and walk and explore new neighborhoods. At a not too crazy pace an hour is 3 miles. I’m showered and online by 7:45 am. I look forward to it and it’s done and I don’t get too busy or make excuses.
For me, if I spend money on exercise, I will get into it. Anything free (like walking or running outside) and I can’t convince myself. Bought a peloton and now I exercise every day vs. 1 day a week prior
