I feel totally blindsided by the interview I just had. I talked informally with Partner 1 before the interview and was told the position would be in one of the firm’s satellite offices. Then, during an interview with Partner 1 and Partner 2, Partner 2 mentioned that I’d have to move to the state where the firm is headquartered because he believes face-time is really important for training/mentoring. I have no plans to move and really hope this wasn’t all a huge waste of time.

Blessing in disguise. Wouldn’t want to work for a firm that does that to people.

No malice necessarily, but a complete lack of communication about a very basic part of the job is a red flag imho.

I would not be surprised if there is confusion within the partners. Who is the main partner? Ie who would you specifically be working for most of the time? I would weigh what they say considerably more than the other partners. I know for sure that some partners in my firm would tell new hires that the firm is trying to get more people in the office while others would say no preference.

That partner’s words were unequivocal. Unless that was the lesser partner — outranked so to speak — this will be tough. Something I’ve done before is tell recruiting “don’t make me an offer, unless X.” Maybe that might work here.

It's sad to see people with 2-3 years of experience getting paid more than you when u have double the experience. 😄 Best part is they are still complaining of getting less. Well I guess you should never settle. New gen is giving a hard time to the experienced folks. I think this is the high time to upgrade your skills. Come out of your comfort zone and start looking for new opportunities. I think this is the best time to switch if u haven't already in quite some time.

Has anyone found roles in Big 4 or industry that allowed more work life balance when their kids were young without damaging future career trajectory? I'm a partner with young kids and feel like I'm missing out on too much of their lives. Wishful, but my dream job would have a lighter workload in terms of time and pressure for the next ~5 years, but not set me back too much (or at all) when the kids are older and tired of me in a few years and I'm ready to be back at work full force.

Currently in risk consulting but seconding at an international bank for internal audit on trade related scopes. Recently got offered to join them at a higher level position. Need advice on career path of IA at bank if it's worth, because they pay would be gradually higher than consulting in the later years when reaching VP level and coming in from different industry, the new scopes are interesting. But what would I be missing out on if I stayed in consulting?

Looking for advice! I was approved to work remotely but my salary will decrease 10%. I received two raises so the decrease brings me down to my previous salary. I was told that it’s due to the cost of labor in the area.

I’ve been with my company for 8+ yrs, I love my manager and the work I do (engagement, recognition, & wellness programs) but I feel like I’m limiting myself since I have the experience, an HRM degree, and SHRM-CP credentials.

Should I apply for roles outside the company?

Dear All Fisbowls,

I have a query. Request all of yours suggestion and if you have done something similar to this please share.

You have resigned and have offer in hand suppose 15 fixed.
Meanwhile you get another offer but they will give around 17 fixed.
I am thinking to quote my in hand offer as 17 fixed with changes in it and share it with them.
So that they can give me around 20 fixed.
Request to share honest detail here.
