I finally got a publication accepted, and instead of feeling proud, I just feel relieved. It’s like everything I do exists just to avoid failure, not celebrate success. Is that just how this job works, or have I lost perspective? I don’t want accomplishment to start feeling like survival.

Congratulations! You are now officially a scientist!!

Relief at first is completely normal. You are recovering from the brutal gauntlet of peer-review. At least for me, that usually subsides in a couple of weeks and then the happiness hits you. It kinda like a woman birthing a baby. She needs to catch her breath a little.

I unfortunately know exactly what you’re feeling. It didn’t always feel like that so I’m hoping if life ever calms down that it’ll go back

I work in commercial real estate retail leasing. Current employer just increased base to $100k with avg. 20-35% bonus/commissions combined. Received offer to exclusively work for a tenant and help them open new locations. $115k base 10% bonus & also stock options. Remote work, lots of driving, similar job title. Its a VC funded startup & aggressively growing. I’ve never worked for a start up, so curious what everyone’s experiences are and any feedback would be super appreciated thank you!!

One of my senior managers is a boomerang and told me she was laid off when she was 7 months pregnant about 10 years ago. I think she was a senior or manager. She was in a specific group and everybody was laid off. It wasn’t performance based.

Would you work at your company again if you were laid off?

I have been approached by 3 separate HR people at a startup company to interview for a position. I already have a fulltime job that pays well and I only started 6 months ago too. Anyways, the pay was intriguing and the job was a high level scientific advisor so I did interviews. At the last interview, at the end I was told the job was for management but I prepared for a different kind of interview. I am waiting for an offer or rejection letter. I feel peeved that they wasted my time. Red flags?
