Actually, not a bad call. Or a Louis Vuitton or Chanel purse.
You could do something like 50/40/10 where you invest 50% of it long term, 40% for short term savings or goals, 10% fun. If you’re gonna invest in stocks you can DCA over a few months to minimize risk if stocks fall given market volatility.
This was for a sign-on I'm assuming right? Because if it were a holiday bonus, I think I'd leave my job in the next 5 minutes and come and try to work for you and whoever your people are.
Eek. You haven't worked in banking then. Avp -15 to 20%, VP 25-35%, SVP 50-70% for avg to high performers at my company. It's awesome but sucks so much comp is tied up into one payment
Invest half, hold onto half. Btw, an $10k bonus is great. Citi hasn’t given me one in 3 years and keeps blaming Covid. I’m sure this year end will be the same bs
If you don’t know what to do with it then, yeah, invest all of it
$10k is really nice for a Christmas bonus! You can invest it into some stocks while I'm sure they're low right now. Do your research first.
I think that's a decent size bonus. Maybe split it up. You can easily save 5k of it and then invest the other 5k. You're 27, so you have plenty of time to take some chances.
My partner gets $3300 bonus at a major bank as a tier 8. 10k is pretty great.
What's a tier 8 approx? I've been seeing comments on this that thread that are... confusing. Got 10k bonus in my first job out of college at Chase, and now generally 20-25k at a 125 base. I guess I'm used to a good portion of my comp typically tied up into year end
Put in all on black….kidding aside, good time to invested.
If you lose just double down, you gotta win at some point.
I'd invest some and put some in a HYSA.
I think 10k is a decent amount. I would invest it in stocks but be careful with the way the economy is doing right now. You can also get an insurance policy if you don't have one yet.
Thank you. I was going to put it into the s&p but tbh I don’t know much about investing. I would hate it to just sit in a savings account. Maybe a cd account?
A $10k bonus is actually pretty decent. If you're not too sure on what to do with it yet, invest half of it and hold on to the rest for safekeeping until you find the best route for it or open an investment account.
Wow thats a big bonus to me. I would invest some of it at least
For how long have you been working with the company? If you have no important things to use or spend it for then it's better to keep it for savings. Just take a few and treat yourself.
Investing is a good way of building up an emergency fund since you never know what might hit you along the way. Life is tough like that so you have to be prepared. Invest as early as you possibly can. If you think you're ready to commit to your financial goals, then go for it.
Oh wow! A $10k bonus? I could only wish. If you are really that confident in investing all of it then definitelt go for it. But I think it would be best not to put all your eggs in one basket. Especially with the current market situation.
