I have 7+ years of experience in talent acquisition/recruitment (currently a Manager for the past 6 months), and I’m considering a pivot into HR Business Partner roles as part of my long-term goal to become a CHRO.

Any tips or recommendations from those who’ve made a similar move? I may have to take a noticeable pay cut, but I’m concerned about becoming too specialized in TA and missing out on broader HR exposure.

Would love to hear your thoughts—especially from people based in Canada!

Is there scope to get any broader HR experience at your current company? That could mitigate potential pay cuts

Yes true you can go for this.

I think that is a strong move. Moving into HRBP needs more business exposure and stakeholder management. I would focus on those areas to make the transition smoother.

Feel like I am potentially on the verge of developing tendonitis / carpal tunnel. I try to keep my (standing) desk ergonomically aligned but the reality is that I spend 8-14 hrs a day typing (and, probably, tense) and I’m concerned about rendering myself physically unable to do this job. Anyone dealt with this?

I'm a corporate recruiter with 3 years of experience. Finishing my degree in HRM 5/2022. I'm thinking of getting my SHRM -CP shortly after graduation.

I'm not sure of where to go after that, but I doubt I will stick with recruiting or my current firm.

Has anyone here started off in recruiting and branched out to other HR functions? Do you like your new role? Do you wish you stuck with recruiting?

Recently accepted a temp role as an HR admin for a former employer. Previously interned there & left because my supervisor did not have any growth opportunities planned out for me; this was in spite of my stellar performance, as reflected in my 90 day review. She has since left the company, but there’s crazy turnover in the company & in the HR department in particular. Just that an HR coordinator resigned. Is it worth going back into a dumpster fire w/ no leadership to gain experience?

Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)

Hi HR Professionals! I am revising our current employment application form. I was just curious what other Employers/HR Professional have done. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

So someone I know asked HR about a boot policy. When he found out that there wasn’t one, but his boss said there was (who gave the guys $ for boots and the claimed it on his expense reimbursements as something else) the boss got mad at him for askingHR (and in trouble for the expense reimbursements) and then 2 days later laid off my friend. There appears to be no notice of bad performance and this person always was the first person on the job site ready to work. Thoughts?
