I have an offer from a tech startup for a fully remote position but I've only been at the job I'm at now for three months. Am I burning my bridges indefinitely with the job I'm at now for bailing early? The commute is 1.5 hours EACH WAY and I am exhausted by the end of the week. Is there a way to let my boss know I'm leaving that's not going to cause shock and disgust?

They’ll be disappointed, of course, but you’ve got to look out for yourself. Just be sure you’re not leaving something stable for a startup that’s going to crash and burn 6 months from now. Otherwise have an open, direct conversation with your boss. Express why you’re leaving, that it has nothing to do with the company or people, but circumstances around quality of life. That your intent isn’t to burn bridges but that you recognize the inconvenience and you hope that this decision doesn’t wholly define you forever in their mind. They might come back with something that surprises you (remote option) making it worthwhile to stay. Or not and you’ve kept your side of the street clean and can leave with a clean conscience.

Cool. Then even more congrats! Happy for you that you found something that checks a lot of the boxes for your fulfillment. Good luck in your convos!

Hi DA, it is what it is. Does the new opportunity check the box for what you need professionally and personally?

Yeah it combines two of my biggest passions so it's a great opportunity but the job I'm at is with a gigantic financial services firm.

I am looking to leave my current position due to not having the opportunity to run campaigns and earn experience.
However, every interview I get asked about the campaigns that I have run.
This is starting to feel like a closed loop. Any ideas are appreciated.

I’m in this business to cure my inferiority complex. Making lots of money, working with fortune 500 clients and walking the streets of NYC with a suit, tie and briefcase makes me feel important and worthy.

I often wish I could be like my law school friends who either moved to small towns or have public sector or non profit jobs, wear sweaters and jeans to work and make far less than me, but are happy with their lives, feel a sense of meaning with their work and don’t need external validation.

Interviewed at Deloitte, PwC and EY for Advisory Senior Consultant role. Deloitte offered $105K (plus $5K bonus), PWC offered $127K (plus $15K bonus) and EY offered $155K (plus $10K bonus).
