I have been at Google for 8 months now. I referred a candidate and she did well on the on-site interview. But I learnt she lied in her resume. What do I do ?

In a world where degree does not matter (and I agree), this seems to be merely significant

like

It’s not that serious. Refer and leave the rest to G. Interview process is rigorous enough.

like

What did she lie about?

like

Her employment. She was a contractor and hid that fact.

likefunny

Lol she’ll be fine, it’s not like she lied about her skills. Don’t get involved, during the background check they will figure out what they need to, that is, if they even give her an offer.

like

I wouldn’t say that’s lying. You can choose to exclude information from your resume. Lying would be like her saying she worked somewhere but she didn’t, or she went to this school but she didn’t, or she has this skill, degree, or cert but she doesn’t.

like

Per the above, ignore it.

Google will decide for itself whether the obfuscation matters; e.g., if you’re friend was AMAZING at the interviews that may not care in the slightest.

Just be a supportive friend regardless of the outcome; anything else has no positive impact on your or their life.

like

Ok thanks for the feedback . She stated she was full time employee when she only a contractor through consultancy there . Guess that’s not lying then

like

Gray area. I wouldn’t hold against her.

like

I see my colleagues also did the same and got offer at Google. Would have thought Google background check to be more efficient 🧐

like

It will definetelly catch that. Contracting agency does show up in background, not EY. But she was working for EY anyway, regardless of the cost cutting structures implemented by EY.
We have contractors in G as well (TVCs) and they are long time being around and they often take fulltime roles as well.

like

You can be a FT employee but still be a contractor?

Agreed on the commonality point, but the question was whether this was possible so figured I'd at least point out that it is :)

I happen to have been in this position in the past.

Why would you specifically do anything about that?

When you work for years building up your resume and others score interview lying on the resume it does matter pwc1

Google doesn’t give a slightest f$ at your resume. A Less impressive resume is always better since it lowers interviewers expectations.

Don’t get involve. It’s not your business. If anything suspicious, background check will reveal it. If you make a complaint, you will destroy your relationship with your friend likely your recruiter as well.

Also, Google doesn’t care about resume. HCs do not read resumes at all. All we look how smart is this person and how they performed at interview.

I was just informed after the third round of interviews they’d like at least 5 references, two must be supervisors. My last job was a temporary remote job where I didn’t really interact with my supervisor and the jobs before that were at my family’s business (I do not speak to any of them for serious personal reasons.) Anything before that was grad school and I haven’t kept in contact with any professors from over five years ago. What should I do? 😕

I’m in big law and on the cusp of making the jump to in-house. It sounds like the company I just interviewed with is getting ready to make me an offer. Hi all- My SO is currently at a Big4 & was initially preparing for S&O roles at GCP but given the high number of ex MBB consultants hired, they believe its just more competition to get the offer & to eventually get promoted over time.

Instead, they have decided to pursue program manager or cloud consultant roles, which they feel might have a lower barrier to entry from an assessment standpoint. Not sure if the bowl agrees but would like to get your thoughts, thanks!
