Anyone with recent experience recruiting for Boston Consulting Group? Got in touch with a recruiter through referral, was directed to submit an application and already finished my pymetrics. Anyone know when I would be able to hear back and what the hiring timeline looks like? Recruiter suggested to get back in a few weeks but isn’t it too slow? McKinsey sent me an invite for 1st interview in a few days after they received my referral.

Why not apply? Some employers take forever to review applications, interview and onboard so you could be close to a year when you make the switch. Also by the time you get an offer you may decide this isn’t what you want and decline. Might as well apply and learn more. You need to be ready with a reason of why you’re looking if you get a phone screen. If internal, I’d network before applying and there may be rules about not transferring for 12-18 months.
Why move for a similar position?
Structural changes in my current org. In the new structure I don’t have oversight over my own team and I have other managers telling me how to run things. I need to be able to assert more control over initiatives I am responsible for. Plus my boss while a nice person is not engaged.
I’ve heard it looks good to show commitment and loyalty. That being said I know many people who’ve had 3+ jobs only 3-5 years out of college already
Not necessarily. Just give it a try. The interview process nowadays takes longer so you'll have more time to decide whether you really want to switch jobs. I'd say, go for it.
I'm curious as to why you're considering jumping ship for a position that's similar to the one you're already in. If it's because the other company is amazing, cool. Just wondering. Either way, I try to stick to a minimum of one year, unless my current job/manager/company is toxic. In that case, I'd consider leaving earlier if the right opportunity presented itself.
If you don't mind me asking, why would you choose to move organizations for the same position? I think it would look better for you to stay in this current position for a year minimum.
