I opened another AmEx (Business Plat for my business) and all points were available immediately on it. Ensure you open the new card prior to closing the old one
As a previous EY employee, I’ll share what I went thru. Amex rules are you have 30 days after the account closes to move points over to another card. You can either transfer points to another partner before you account is fully closed, or you can open up a new Amex account and the transfer is immediate once you have an account open, even before receiving the new CC in the mail. I moved to another travel gig so personally I got the Amex Platinum Card, which comes with so many benefits. If you travel, I highly highly recommend it. In the first year, you get $600 in credit back. $200 uber, $200 airline, $100 saks, $100 global entry. Also utilize card match tool to see if you qualify for the 100 k bonus sign up. There are other benefits you can enroll into, but it’s too many to list. But you get back so much more than you put into it.
