I’m experiencing the same thing. My previous employer definitely catered specifically to ONLY the younger folks whether they had the experience or not or whether they were even any good at their job, as long as they were yes folks, younger individuals . It’s a whole new world out there, unfortunately.
Job search has changed significantly over the past few years. Many schools offer career services as an alumni benefit. Networking groups can also be helpful.
I was told by a recruiter to only put the last 7 years on my resume and indicate that past experience would be available upon request. They may not want to pay top dollar for a 30+ year veteran and are concerned about retirement.
It’s a hard job market overall. I’m more than a decade into the industry, and it took me more than 4 months to find something. Keep your head up, keep applying, you’ll land a good one eventually
Are you willing to relocate to DFW?
Definitely agree. I have found that either snipping off some of my past experience or just plain 'dumbing' down my resume is not even effective. The problem with my past experience is that I have stayed at almost all of my jobs for 5 years or more, therefore my experience appears lacking if I cut any out.
I have noticed, however, that if you know anyone at a certain company, it helps dramatically. Do you network? I moved to an area where I know nobody so went to every public networking event out there. I started with 'meetup.com' where the people I met always had other groups to tell me about. It has helped me quite a bit. Good luck!!!
