Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

Not me. I wish every workplace had flexibility so people could choose to work in the way that helps them to be most productive (one can dream, right?). I'm extremely introverted and have the worst time focusing in the office. Plus, I end up so socially drained that I have nothing left for friends and family. Working from home makes me so much happier.
That’s fair enough! I don’t think I’ve really thought of that perspective before, I’m quite a social person so I need that engagement to keep me going. I can see how the whole ordeal can make you exhausted for the rest of your time.
I hear you! There’s something about being in the office that helps switch my brain into work mode. I like the flexibility of remote, but too much of it and the days start to blur. A good mix of both seems to keep me the most focused (and sane).
Couldn’t agree more! A good balance is perfect.
I've worked in office and remotely, and I like either one, but in different ways, of course. When I'm remote I find I can really focus and get a lot done. But there's a lot to be said for the camaraderie in the office. And sometimes just being around people makes me feel like I've got more energy. And I will say I've learned a lot by working around other people, and that just doesn't happen while working remotely.
In person is great for learning purposes. I feel like there’s so many things I’d have misheard/misunderstood if I learned it all remotely.
I very much prefer being in office, too. I'm a certified workaholic and when I'm at home, I'll spend all day and all night tweaking work projects. It was really unhealthy for my home life. As much as I loved working remotely, I think being forced to RTO was a blessing in disguise.
It’s good to keep that in the office! It can be hard to disconnect from the work if you’re not moving locations so it seems like it’s been good for you.
