I invested into the market yesterday 😭 I know people love talking about DCA and “you can’t time the market”, but this definitely feels like a moment I’ve lost money 😞

Just buy a bit more today since it’s red and buy more if it continues to dip if you have extra cash. Keep your DCA plan as is and just average down

like

For those who entered this week - you likely started with a marginal amount compared to what you can put in over course of your lifetime. Even if you dumped 500k in yesterday you will still breakeven in 1-2 years. This is a long term game

Keep thinking long term, that’s what DCA is about. Next but will be lower

word .. i bought BA at 220 yesterday morning 😢😢

I was thinking of buying but then didn’t.. your flight ain’t taking off any soon. .

funny

That could literally change tomorrow

like

Good thing you waited a day! Had you invested Tuesday or Wednesday you might be even worse!

But seriously, breathe, it’s all good. Next cash infusion will lower your basis and might cut today’s losses in half.

like

That is why it is important to know when to enter and exit. All major stock indices and most big name stocks were extremely overbought in the last 3 days - look up RSI analysis. If anything you should have been selling the last few days or at least waiting

I sold BA at 230 - the peak - and am thanking myself. But I held on to a few other positions just in case and got hammered on those. It happens to everyone.

Hedge with puts as well - my stock portfolio went down 10% but my puts went up over 100% today so was a very green day for me.

While all the bulls were putting more money into the market, I was happily buying TVIX between $110 and $125 this week.

like

Man. Do you think there’s a risk for UVXY to get delisted too down the road?

I bought on Monday if that makes you feel better. Plan to hold it.

like

I posted my 1200% loss on a covered call last week, had it been dated tomorrow instead of last Friday I could have closed it today for a gain or likely let it expire tomorrow. I had the right idea, just a week off on the timing.

That’s the problem with options though. I’d you got the timing wrong your idea was wrong. Don’t mean to rub salt in but don’t pay yourself in the back for a 12x loss of principle unless you want to go broke..

I bought in feb so feel your pain. Also DCA in on Tuesday lolz. Let’s see in like 3 years. If I’m still even or only up like 5% I probably won’t play stocks anymore. Coulda made more selling vintage clothes on eBay, or waited and actually timed the market. Funny how ppl say you can’t just to get you to buy in and ride the wave with them. I wouldn’t have gotten in if it wasn’t for the advice here (time in market beats timing market). Some folks do not have your best interest and don’t share advice, and strategies may not apply to all situations. My 2 cents.

Any millennials here worried about their parents retirement? My parents are set financially but I’m worried about their lack of hobbies and social life. They watch a lot of news, politics, stock market, and sports. However not much more than that. I feel I’d be fine with that if they were in their 80s or older but they’re early 60s.
