If you can, try to get a character without a mask for your mandatory 6 month park orientation prior to joining the desk job. Like Prince Charming or Gaston. Obviously your odds of no mask will be better if you’re female. Just dont get Goofy. Everyone thinks it would be the best but that mask gets so friggin hot.
Damn you just replied to a comment I made 2 years ago
Glendale. Meh. But, it’ll get you to LA, get you some experience and get you in the door somewhere else amazing.
Disney! Glendale/Pasadena area is very nice. Warmer part of So Cal. I grew up there. You won’t find any snow or a shitty spring.
Live close to work. Make sure it’s an area you like. Just an FYI Glendale has a high population of Armenians and LA in general is a hell of a lot more diverse than Michigan. If you opt to come over here, welcome!
Armenians & Latins??? Well, yeah, finally, there may be some really great food in this town!
Definitely try to live out that way. At least east of the 101. The shorter your commute, the more pleasant the experience. As a fellow midwesterner to LA transplant, this is an awesome opportunity to have a unique, diverse experience and be exposed to awesome culture you can't find in the midwest.
Glendale is super close to a lot of cool LA neighborhoods such as Eagle Rock, Echo Park Atwater Park, Los Feliz and Silver Lake. Just be careful, when I lived in LA we would joke endlessly about how bad the drivers were in Glendale.
Oh yeah, this is a real thing: souped-up cars constantly go tearing around the streets of Glendale being super loud. Not the worst thing in the world, but something to consider about living there.
If you like Disney Parks it’s a no brainer. The creative department is great, diverse, and full of a bunch of smart ex-agency people.
Area isn’t the most exciting but you can live in exciting neighborhoods that are a 15-20 minute drive away.
Glendale is not LA, I think it’s important to make that distinction. It feels different, more suburban, kind of a place where you’d settle down with family. But nicer and wider roads, plus a great mall. It’ll be hell to get to the west side. But it’s close to Silverlake, which is nice for weekend brunches.
And the mall has a Pie Hole kiosk, make sure to try. They have the best early grey pie.
Get to know Jean Batthany. She’s the best.
