I have moved a few times for jobs. When I'm making that choice, I balance 2 things: how much I'll be able to put into savings, and how much I would enjoy living in that city. Living in NYC has never appealed to me no matter the salary.
....when it disappears into rent, full stop. If you're not able to save any of what your earning, the high salary is a vanity metric, nothing more.
NYC is a great place for a career. You start earning $100k, live with a roommate.
Then in 5 years with dedication you are earning $200k+
If you want a stable 9-5 and don’t plan on promotion then NYC is probably not the best place.

I’ve found a good way to compare salaries between cities with vastly different costs of living is to compare the quality of living you’d be able to comfortably afford. That means if you need a two bedroom, can you comfortably afford two bedroom rent on that salary in that city?

I could never do NYC… if you’re looking for a more exciting lifestyle or future ops then maybe it would be a good call. But 130 doesn’t get you far there.
