Actually, yes. I struggled with the hangovers and GI issues with drinking while working in BigLaw. I really cut my alcohol consumption for several years and moved to weed.

Same! When I’m at social gatherings, I just get a soda. Drinking is nonexistent because it’s really just not worth the day(s) of recovery after.

Spiked up a ton in the first half of covid (was bored and busy), then way down second half (got bored of drinking and still busy but also chronically hungover). Back to my pre covid norm of episodic social binge drinking only
I feel like it’s the norm to go out and drink a lot and late, but can’t handle my case load with the hangovers that come with it

Just nurse your drink forever. I will nurse a couple of bourbons for the entire night and not ever feel a thing.
I love a drink but have found that I’ve become much more tactical with my drinking depending on how busy I am. If I do drink, I’ll try to make it on a Friday night so that I’m good to go for Monday. Just little subconscious habits that I’ve noticed. Saturday/Sunday/weekday drinks leave me feeling regret at work. And why bother drinking when it makes me regretful…
Nah
Yes. I can’t handle drinking very much and this job unless I am not very busy.
I'm in the same boat as Associate 1. Drinking was leaving me with GI issues and hangovers just weren't worth it. I'm at three sips of a white claw a month at this point and no one has noticed.
Yes, I use to drink quite a bit but now I drink less than once a week and never more than 2 drinks at a time. Set rules, take it a week at a time. Find someone going through it to talk to.
Yeah I found a good group online that I chat with and it feels good to talk to people that feel the same way about alcohol.
I love cocktails but essentially stopped drinking in 2020. Now drink rarely - 1 or 2 drinks a month or so. You don’t have to drink if you think you’d be better off not drinking
I think the judgment though is mostly in our heads. Anyone who’s actually judging someone for not drinking is a dickhead. Every year there are summer associates who worry about how it’ll look for them to not drink, but I’ve never experienced anyone giving anyone legit grief for not drinking. And if it’s your friends who are pressuring you to drink, then they’re not really your friends.
I do get that it’s hard to break out of the mindset though, but try to believe the no one really cares whether you drink or not. You just gotta make the best decision for yourself. After all, no one else has to do your work or deal with your hangovers.
I have a bourbon or four most nights. Helps me sleep.
I agree with OC. I’ve noticed that when I drink alcohol late at night, say past 8 pm, I sleep very poorly and wake up feeling super groggy. That’s even if I only have 4 drinks that night.
