Hi guys,
Need help,I am joining VMware Banglore on 27th June. During interview I told them I need wfh. They said it wil be wfh this entire year. Only mistake I did was i didn't permanent wfh. I took for granted like once I join i can opt for it ( as my VMware friends had said we can opt for it)
Now the offices have started, I am scared if they call me to office , I have 14months son, not willing to leave him n go for office.
So if I ask manager to give me permanent wfh will they agree ?

I've been fully remote for 14 years with various agencies and in house marketing set ups. I do travel for quarterly meetings, but that's it. I'm gone if the demand was 5 days a week in office. No question.
Yes. My office was forced back a while ago and many of my coworkers resigned to work places with hybrid schedules, and I am actively seeking to leave. my Office is a slightly different situation because we have to pay a for parking, so returning was effectively a pay cut. But on a more general level, child care is expensive.
If you have kids and were able to save money working remotely, then being forced back into the office could be a massive hit, and in Many cases with no justifiable reason from the employee‘s perspective since the remote model has been working for years at this point.
Yeah, that's kind of the situation I'm in. With the cost of childcare I'm not sure I could afford to go back to an office.

Forced 5 day RTO is a dead canary. It’s a leading indicator of a systemic problem with a company. That’s the larger concern.
So how many days in-office is a live canary?
It’s not like I’d quit right away.
But I would start looking for a new job immediately.
I’d leave. So would majority of folks. There’s a reason most places haven’t gone back to 5-days in.
Nope, remote work is the future and only option
Rising Star
Nobody wants it just miserable boomers that got the knee pads out for private equity
Nah. Max 2 days per week in my comfort zone. 3 days you gotta pay me 20% more
That sounds about right.
Already did 2 years ago. No regrets
There’s no jobs my friend. 90% of people would have to suck it up - there’s nowhere else to go.
YES
I mean no I think it’s insane to risk not having a paycheck to “make a point”
I left my old agency when they forced us into the office 3 days a week and I have no regrets. Working from home is my #1 benefit. I’d take a pay cut before going back into the office.

True. I don't see what you gain by fighting it.
I could probably manage 4 if I absolutely had to. 5 is a deal breaker. 3 works best
I didn’t do Fridays before the pandemic. Why would I go back to a worse working situation
Or you could just not follow the policy and call their bluff. It helps if you have F U money
I would leave
,I'd stay. I'm a mature individual who can adapt to changing environments. Also spent the majority of my career in an office. if you have a problem with the people you work with, you go to HR. If your boss is terrible, your boss is gonna be whether or not you're remote.
Work isn't supposed to be playtime. If you're miserable at your job, it's not because you're sitting in an office.
My company has mandated RTO for managers and has closed the closest offices near me. I have never worked in an office with this company (it has been client travel or home. So I am actively looking. I will not be driving an hour plus each way just to tick a box.
I understand when you HAVE TO BE AT A SIGNT.. But we do not. And if we do we are.. I come to office once a week (I travel far very far) and I sit in my cubicle and take team calls…completely useless. Sometimes I pick the day that gives me most visibility everyone’s in something is happening casually running into managers.. but that’s it
I would leave
While I wouldn't leave I would look for a job back in the city I want to be in, or any city with public transit. Having the comfort of a car has been nice but driving as fas as I would have to, to work alone, for a RTO, would be a deal breaker.
