Being able to chart my own course and shape things as I see fit. Despite how that sounds, I'm not an egomaniac. I just always wanted the autonomy that came with being in a leadership role. Now that I have it, I don't want to go back.
I agree with original poster. Current leaders are responsible not only for ensuring the company's success by directing employees but also to train up the next generation of leaders. If we fail in that responsibility, there is no future generation of leaders.
What keeps me coming back is being the kind of leader I wish I had earlier in my career. It’s hard, but shaping someone else’s path makes it feel bigger than just the job.
It's so true. The constant pressure of being in leadership is exhausting, but what keeps me going is seeing the tangible progress in others, when someone levels up or starts handling things independently. It makes the constant problem-solving and decision-making feel like it’s leading somewhere meaningful.

I get a lot of enjoyment out of being able to drive strategy and innovation in my area, and seeing the impact that has across colleagues, partners and customers.
I fully subscribe to the servant leader style philosophy. My driving “why” is finding ways to make things easier for people, primarily using technology, and by empowering my team to do this, I’m able to scale my purpose - and the best most impactful way for me to do this is to make sure that my people understand the vision and mission we are following, and then I do everything in my power to make sure they have what they need to be successful- and to be empowered in their own right.
Senior leadership can be challenging for many reasons, but I do find it very rewarding.
