I need to vent here. I’m giving up on my job hunt. I’m mentally drained from it and I’m tired of trying. I graduated 10 months ago. I applied to at least 400 jobs since and landed a grand total of 1 interview (where the recruiter ghosted me). What was the point of me getting a degree, going $80k in debt, spending the last 4 years in a finance position in preparation for this role, just for me to be the one loser from my graduating class to not have a job? I’ve tried everything. I give up.

I would try to get a contract job and then go permanent and work from there, if you’re struggling as much as you say you are. My friend did this exact strategy and took a job in Utah at Goldman and then left after a few years and joined a banking team.

Sending good vibes your way! Hope something comes through for you 🫶

This job market right now is ridiculous! I have 10yrs experience in my industry and decided to go back to school. I graduated last year and have been on the job search that utilizes my degree ever since and still no luck. I 100% feel your struggle

like

I understand your how you feel but don’t let that deter you. There’s a job for you out there and if you stop applying you might miss it. Keep the energy maybe a little tweaking in your resume too. 💪

I went through this scenario 15 years ago. Here’s what you do- figure out what field you want to be in, then start applying for entry level jobs. GET YOUR FOOT IN THE DOOR. Once you’re in, they’ll realize how valuable you are. Humble yourself in a role you might deem below your standards. Who knows, it might be the best thing to happen to you. (It was for me.)

Try looking for a finance role at a credit union in your area. It’s a great industry to work in!

like

Also look at GSEs. Credit Unions and GSEs are where it's at.

How deep are you networking? try to find an Alum connection inside the company via LinkedIn. could be a third connection. connect and see if they know about the job and plug for you. A little inside nudge could get you an interview, other wise your one of many online apps. A contract slot is a good idea too, companies use that to test run people.

like

Try a temp agency or two, also. It's sucks right now and it will keep sucking. Give yourself a few days "break" guilt free and then get back to a plan. Don't burn out, but keep a steady eye out.

like

I would suggest be open to relocation (maybe you already are). Is there a niche in your field you could pursue while you’re waiting?

Also, as suggested earlier, try contracting, reach out to different vendors who do recruitment and hiring.

I know it’s easy for me to say, but I am hoping you get something soon, wish you all the best

Hi - I have been there. A lot of us have. The problem with getting interviews may be with how your resume is written - it is not getting through the scanners. There are lots of free resume review services available. Take advantage of them and don’t give up!

You need to work with your alumni office. Ask them for help.

like

It was like that for me in 2013 but for almost 2 years, and July 2023 to now.
Definitely be open to moving, and keep looking at nearby places that want someone in office 100%. You might be a little underemployed for awhile, sadly. But something professional is better than nothing.

like

Have you looked into companies like Revature and FDM? They specialize in helping people in situations like yours.

I would try a finance contact center just to get your feet wet again. After a year start looking again. SECU has many openings across the state of NC for Financial Advisory Services Specialists that are energy level. Also try looking on Handshake, the job site for college students and new grads . I would also hire a professional to help you with your resume and I recommend a cover letter. When it has come down to equally qualified candidates, I’ve chosen the one that put in the most effort. Good luck. Hang in there. It’s tough for everyone right now.

If you’re willing to grind a little apply as a divisional associate at Invesco, not great pay for 6-12 months but then you can be promoted to an internal market consultant to make double. Do that for a few years and double again if you go external sales or just move somewhere within the company

I realized a slow pace at work is really bad for me. A couple years ago I was experiencing burn out from my fast paced job supporting transactions, and believed by moving to a slower job in a lower cost area, I would be sailing off to the sunset. Wrong, I spend weeks following up with other teams, often times they forgot what we discussed, so I spent 50% if the time reminding them of the topics and next steps. I spend most of my time writing memos no one will read.
