Slow down. Use the read aloud feature. Print it out and review. Pay your paralegal $1 for every typo/error they catch…
Just make sure to make the terms clear:
At your discretion/judgment of what an error is, if it’s the same error repeated throughout you may count that as 1, doing this is actually their job and not a side project so technically you don’t owe them anything it’s just a fun game with voluntary payment, you’re not going to do this for every project, please don’t share with the other staff as it may cause issues/unrest.
Pay in cash promptly.
Other ways to do it are to informally keep track as “points” (1:1) and then take them to lunch to redeem the points.
Pobody’s Nerfect. Sounds like nerves are a factor. I’m a big advocate of transparency and honest (but professionally appropriate and concise) communication.
First, breathe. I’m sure you’re not doing as poorly as you think. We are always hardest on ourselves.
Second, if it could be nerves - or you think they play a factor - ask the partner to coffee or lunch and (1) get to know him/her/them - it will humanize him/her/them and reduce the nerves and mistakes; (2) be honest about how excited you are to work with and learn from him/her/them and be open that it makes you nervous and you’re frustrated by the mistakes; and (3) ask for advice on the partner’s process/ workflow to catch errors and avoid mistakes (and implement them).
Partners are people and they make mistakes too! The value in collaboration the collaboration and the skills each brings to the table. Sounds like they bring experience and you’ve got a lot of drive, enthusiasm, and care! That’s awesome!
I’m sure you’re not an incompetent idiot. Pobody’s Nerfect. Don’t be so hard on yourself. (Try not to at least).
A professor in college taught me this trick: change the font in the document you’re working on before you submit it. You’ll be amazed at they typos you’ll catch if you change, say, times new Roman to courier new for editing purposes.
You can also try printing it out and going through it with a ruler and a pen, forcing yourself to read every word.
Download grammarly
They mentioned typos and what I assume are grammatical/phrasing issues which I think grammarly is great for. I work in transactional law as well and I always do a grammarly check at the end to make sure sentences are complete and I don’t make any typos
