Yes! I have and I think it’s a good way to force you to have your own POV on a topic. If you’re nervous to take the plunge, try teaching and/or a workshop. You’re still a thought leader but not alone on a stage.

Workshops are also a great idea. When you have attendees working on something, the interaction keeps you from being a talking head the whole time.
I have not spoken at a conference, but I would love the opportunity to. I have volunteered for some smaller presentations at work. It would be a great experience to do something larger. Do you have any tips on it, either for preparation or getting the chance? I know I’d have to push myself to actually do it.

Start with small virtual events. That’s what my team member is doing. You can use your phone as a teleprompter. Prop it up near your camera and you don’t have to memorize your speech, but you must practice to get comfortable with it. Use lots of engaging images so you’re telling a story and not reading a PowerPoint to them.
I do speak at conferences — tech, tourism and event strategy are my usual topics. Always open to sharing the stage or co-creating something powerful. Let me know what you're working on!

I just started a new talk about teaching myself and my staff about working and growing in an AI world.
Despite having earned a speech communications degree, public speaking, kind of terrifies me. I forced myself to do it when I have to. But I can tell I’m not all that smooth and my social awkwardness to shine through.

I rehearse to get comfortable with my material. It takes practice to fake any level of smoothness 😀. My supervisor saw me at a conference and said I have a split personality. I’m a completely different person on stage.
