Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

I don’t know that I’ve ever apologized after giving my salary range. This is a job we are agreeing to do. If the numbers don’t make sense, then it’s not going to work.
That sounds like a good approach. It's best to have them state a number first and begin negotiating from there. Asking about flexibility is a good move, as there often is, but you won't know that without asking about it.
That's a really smart move. Instead of sounding fixed and rigid, you yourself are showing flexibility, which hopefully will be reciprocated. I am surprised when reading through here though that all that is ever mentioned is the actual salary! There are work hours, remote work, PTO, Vacation, and more that can be negotiated. Maybe a day or two remote might mean more than an extra 5-10k? How about another week vacation? Also, negotiating is such a big part of our lives now - with jobs only lasting 2-5 years - that more people should watch some videos or gain more knowledge in some way about how to negotiate.

This is a great approach! Sometimes just changing phrasing is hugely helpful.
