A doctor would probably have the best advice, especially without knowing how severe it can be. But some home remedies could be to clean, vacuum, and keep the cat brushed as much as you can. Also, an air purifier, I’ve heard, can help a lot, whether you have allergies or not.
There is a special cat food that has chicken egg antibodies … if you can find a local chicken egg seller who has barn cats I hear those are good too. Cat allergies come from their saliva and licking themselves clean mainly
I’m allergic to cats but through sheer will I’ve been able to force myself to become less allergic by exposing myself to cats constantly. I used to itch and sneeze and have itchy eyes but now as long as I don’t touch my face, I can live with a cat. And now I even foster cats who need housing for awhile. If he isn’t going into anaphylactic shock maybe he can try exposing himself and seeing if he can adjust. Also there are meds that can be taken. Of course this is all if he’s willing.
Allergy shots for your fiancé, try the cat food with the egg antibodies from purina, and make sure you vacuum weekly. Husband and I are both allergic and we just figure it out because we love our cats. Dont punish the cat by getting rid of them.
I dated a guy with *3 cats* last year and I used this nasal spray (fluticasone propionate) every day which helps you gradually build an immunity to cat dander. I hear people do this for years on end when they own a cat but have allergies.
I hear it may not work as well if you're severely allergic but it's worth a try.
How are you just finding out now that your fiance is allergic?
My now-wife had cats when we dated. She gave them up when we got engaged because of my allergy. It broke her heart and I think a part of her will always resent having to do such a difficult thing. But we’ve been married 18 years now so it wasn’t insurmountable for her, thankfully
Do you use catnip often? My husband always thought he was allergic to cats, but it was catnip.
Daily brushing and a good hepa air filter might also help
I’m allergic to cats. We have 2 of them and a dog. I just take meds for it.
