That's what we did! You can start growing now where you live using DIY hydroponics. Google Rain Gutter Grow System to get started.
As far as finding farm property, zoning is the MOST important thing. Water is the 2nd most important thing. I am happy share our journey if you want to chat. We have a 5 acre homestead and raise chickens, turkeys and milk goats. We also grow about 1/4 acre garden in Central Florida.
I can give you referral to a real estate agent who can help you find a farm. Where do you want your farm?

What's stopping you? My neighbor has a small garden that produces more veggies than he and our family can eat. It doesn't take much

Start small, get 2 chickens and try indoor micro greens under lights. You have a pretty decent salad with hard boiled eggs and micro greens. Then start scaling. I like the micro greens idea because weather and seasons don’t matter. If you get Rhode Island Red hens they lay all year. You really don’t need a farm to start. My chickens don’t make much noise. I could do all this with a small backyard. Most cities allow hens.
That’s beautiful! I’m rooting for you ~
Me too!

You don't need to buy a farm to grow your own food you just need to buy some land and grow your own food unless you want animals now we're talking expense. I live in a rural area on 5 acres one acre I use for growing food that most people buy from Latin America and more of a Southern climate. I have pecan trees walnut trees, orange lemon and lime trees. I have a small medicinal garden that I start indoors in a spare room. I even set up a monarch butterfly sanctuary with milkweed plants. I compost. It's a lot of work. I have friends and family that grow black eyed peas squash snap beans corn etc.
I also grow dwarf avocados in a trailer during the winter and then take them out during the spring and Summer. My suggestion is instead of a farm with animals, grow your own food with your own land but situate yourself around others for example egg farms I'm surrounded by them, I have a deal going where I get double yolk eggs 1 flat for $5, I know people that own poultry farms.I can get cow and horse manure for fertilizers. Start small think big. There's plenty of deer around here. There's catfish ponds, I'm 80 miles west of the East coast for shrimp, oysters and crab. Good luck to you.

I have 12 acres, on a river, low taxes, cabin, thinking about selling - west coast. Buildable lot already cleared, septic approved. It has enough land for self sustainability, wood and electric heat/ac. Amazing water. Naturally produces timber, mushrooms, fish. High speed internet.
