I can relate to feeling stuck between two meds. I’ve seen people manage ADHD with a mix of lifestyle changes and meds, but dropping something like Zoloft too fast can backfire. Have you tracked what side effects are hitting hardest? Sometimes that helps guide the next step in figuring out what’s worth adjusting.
Yes, I've been tracking the symptoms. The biggest is I feel like a slug--it's killing my motivation and metabolism! I've brought this up to the NP before and told her I wanted to start the ADHD meds and then slowly wean off the Zoloft, not just do it all at once, but she was resistant to the idea.
I think weaning off May be reasonable but you should wait and see how the ADHD meds work first before you try to start weaning off the other
I've never taken multiple medications simultaneously. I took Lexapro for a while, then gradually got off that and was prescribed a year later. I definitely have anxious moments, but I think my overall anxiety is much better now that I'm on it. Maybe ask the NP for her thoughts on weaning off Zoloft as you begin taking your ADHD meds?
I have both ADHD and general anxiety. Is the Zoloft helping with your anxiety or no? If not, there’s no reason to be on it.
I was in the same boat. My doctor said: either anxiety is causing your focus symptoms or ADHD is causing your anxiety. She gave me an RX for a low dose lorazepam and said if this doesn’t help with your focus, we know it’s ADHD. Guess who takes concerta now? 🤣
I do think it’s worthwhile to stay on the Zoloft while you’re trying the ADHD meds— change one thing at a time. If the adhd meds help you considerably, you then have data to show your MD that you may not need the Zoloft, and you can start tapering it down. (And at that point, if you notice any creeping anxiety, you can just bump it back up.)
Take both. If you’re feeling much better ask to wean off the Zoloft.
Don’t go cold turkey.
Oh DEFINITELY don’t stop Zoloft cold turkey…it’s like you have a million bees flying around your head
I was on wellbutrin with my adhd meds, but I recently switched to zoloft. I feel so much better on zoloft. My adhd meds alone were not enough especially if you take "holidays" because they don't want you on a stimulant every single day forever so weekends are less rough without my adhd meds because I started on the zoloft
I’ve never heard of adhd medication increasing anxiety. I took adhd meds for years and never had that problem. I swear doctors sometimes are just adding in these symptoms.
It can, especially if you consume it with another stimulant such as coffee.
I take hydroxyzine for anxiety…I like it a lot more than Zoloft
