Not sure if this is helpful but I use Tretinoin which I had added into my curology subscription. Only side effect I’ve ever noticed was irritation but that was when I was using Differin and not using it correctly. I don’t know about seeing massive improvement, but I imagine it will become apparent more so down the line when other people are developing wrinkles and I’m not (to the same extent at least). The improvement I have noticed has been an overall improvement in texture and tone.
Seeing the other comment — yes on the chemical burn. That’s what happened when I went too crazy too fast! Start on a low amount and sandwich it, increasing if you feel comfortable. Use sunscreen!
Honestly if you do a moisturizer sandwich method where you put on a layer of your moisturizer, retinol, then moisturize again the peeling side affects are lessened, also make sure you start with something super light like a .25%!
When I was young like 18-19 I did give myself a full face chemical burn from it but 😅 I learned my lesson and honestly wasn’t that bad.
Now I freaking love my skin after struggling with adult acne for over a year!!
Omg that’s what I meant, big dumb.
If you have sensitive skin I would recommend using bakuchiol instead! It's a natural alternative to retinol and it doesn't have the negative side effects/interactions with other skin care ingredients. I found that my skin looked brighter after a few weeks, especially when paired with a niacinamide serum.
I use tretinoin (via Hers.com) and haven’t noticed improvements. I peel around my chin/ mouth sometimes so am careful to moisturize well. I’ll keep at it, hoping for results.
I’m hoping to see improvements to my uneven skin tone caused by aging and sun damage.
Understandable why you’re nervous!!!
Tretinoin user here. Irritation and purging are the top two side effects I would say occurs.
For irritation, when I started I used a “sandwich method” with snail mucin to the bottom and Vanicream on top. Huuuuge difference.
Purging. Not much you can do but ride it out for the week or two that it lasts. Your skin after that purging though, phew! 😍
It does take a while to FULLY kick in (around three months) but you can start to see improvements from around week six I’d say to be safe depending on your current skin concerns and age.
Overall, this is one item that will never leave my skin regimen.

Sure! CVS Caremark. I don’t think I have a prescription deductible. My insurance is BCBSIL regular PPO.
