I’m not going to say that is good or bad advice. Instead, look at going to a company that wants to mentor you. A company that has effective leaders will give you more chance to learn…not train, but learn concepts and principles.
I’ve had jobs with public and private companies, and while I prefer working for a public company, you often can learn many more aspects at a private company.
If you have enough years at a publicly traded company that is successful, the discounted stock purchases could allow you to retire comfortably after 20 or 30 years. Since those places generally no longer have pensions, that is IMO the main attraction now
