Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

Dear Sir/Madame,
I was positively NOT DELOITTED to observe the following on August the 26th the year of our Lord 2020, at just prior to noontime...

Assuming you’re in the US, you can be laid off for any reason, or no reason at all, as long as the action doesn’t fall afoul of labor discrimination protections.
SC1, you are probably right.
Great way to get cheaper/improve profitability.
We don’t usually fire...but will roll off expecting budget cuts. Then when budget comes in higher or we re-create that need, job re-opens. Usually an easily replaceable position (no offense).
This post here is why following the money seems to be more important than anything else. Companies will drop you to improve the bottom line, why shouldn’t you treat them the same?
Yikes, Deloitte is savage! 😮

It’s not like we do work that can’t be easily done by somebody else.
Two thoughts OP:
First, if activity is picking up maybe they need people at your level. Assuming decent professional growth on your part this past period, you will bring much more value than a new hire, at not much more cost. ‘Second year’ consultants have the best economics for both clients and a firm. Call your HR and be assertive!
Second, as a point of explanation, not necessarily mechanically helpful to you, firms need to keep their recruitment pipelines rolling even in tougher times. If the pyramid is not maintained, future staffing and economics get tough. If you are >10-12 months in, you are not equivalent to a new hire anymore anyway
