When you are "let go" apply for your state's unemployment insurance. Follow the guidelines of the program. Many times, a person who is terminated for reasons not related to misconduct or violations of employer rules can be approved for unemployment benefits.
Good luck and be persistent.
I was laid off in July three days before my 58th birthday! I was there almost 7 years! I was told “budget cuts”. I was working remotely and this job was my life, I loved what I did wholeheartedly. I too thought this was my last job, boy was I wrong!! I was able to collect unemployment thankfully, but finding a job seemed impossible especially at my age but after 200+ applications and only two interviews I landed a great position. There is something better out there waiting for you. Don’t give up it’s coming soon. 😊
I'm 59, believe me, I get it. I've had several interviews that I thought went well but never got a call back. I'm sure it's my age.
I had 2 more this week, I'm hoping to hear something, but if not I guess I keep trying.
I just feel so defeated.
It's all age discrimination. 24 years experience and no one will hire me... I'm 59 years old.
Absolutely!!!! I am 59 also. Obviously, I am a nurse. lol Therefore on job applications we have to put down the year we graduated from college/nursing school. I have 35 years experience. I noticed at the start of my 50’s when I would apply the calls would get less and less. And that’s to even come in for an interview!!! There is female age discrimination across the board. All professions. If I do get an interview it’s with a 30 something year old with 5 credentials after their name, but minimal to no hands on experience. It’s humiliating.
I was let go at 58 from a job I had been at for 14 years. The hospital lab owners let go of all of us in 3 states. I worked a remote job after that, it was a complete joke. After that I was able to collect unemployment after my severance package benefits ran out. Since my state has gone to Dragon Speak type dictation there are no jobs like I had. I have applied for other jobs. My state just banned, this year, the question of when did you graduate high school. Ageism is very real here. I am now my elderly mom’s care giver. Don’t give up looking just because I had a bad experience. There should be your forever job out there. My state just sucks. I’m routing for you! Yes you will be eligible for unemployment. Good luck. I’m routing for you!
I understand, I'm 59.
I’m so sorry that happened! I really don’t have any advice, I’m sorry. I would be very mad also!! Best of luck
Where do you live?
NW Indiana
I just heard that employers are hiring older workers as they find the older generation has a great work ethic.
We do. And most of us are not addicted to our phones. For example, I watch a worker from the hospital kitchen come up to get trays, and he’s 20 something, walks as slow as a zombie and has his hands resting on top of the cart WHILE looking at his phone. And he is not alone in this. Other young nurses do the same thing.
Yes for the unemployment.
If you are let go you CAN get unemployment. If you plan to do that don't bother looking for a job right now. Wait so you can take your time while you draw benefits to look for something you want ...if you can live off your benefits for a little while.
Contact your unemployment agency asap. You should be able to collect for x number of weeks. Did the company not offer subsidized unemployment? Ask HR at your current job.
I was laid off in April for the 2nd time with the same company after 8 yrs of service literally a day after my annual review where I received a raise. I find it a blessing. 1 door must close for another to open.
Yes you will be eligible for unemployment
As I read your post, I am just shaking my head. In my honest opinion you didn’t do anything wrong, in fact I’d say you went above and beyond for your patients, but in the world we live in good honest intentions are translated into evil, dark, other than good intentions. Healthcare used to be about caring for people, it has turned into numbers and business. Get the most number of people seen or treated within a set time frame, and don’t do anything extra, get by with as little costs as possible. It sickens me! And the population has become way too “sue happy” trying to make a lot of money of somebody else and not working hard at it at all. As a person you didn’t do anything wrong but in the healthcare world with all its rules and ways to cover its own a$$ unfortunately you were in the wrong. A better question is what type of doctor are you going to choose to be for the people or for the corporation? Remember to use this as a ladder, just a leaned lesson as you move forward in life. Best of Luck!

Yes you should be able to collect unemployment but check with your state
Ok you have had time to sulk. Now time to pick yourself up and start putting in applications. Feeling sorry for yours is not gonna pay the bills. Don't let anyone or anything bring you down. You are in control of your destiny. Let's go, get to it!!!!💪🏽
where are you located? where I'm from we are always looking for good CNAS. How long have you been a cna? could maybe sign up for agency?
Yes. You have to apply. It can’t be for performance issues. The name of the firm your ex-employer should have filed is:
COLORADO
Department of
Labor and Employment
NOTICE OF POTENTIAL AVAILABILITY OF UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE BENEFITS
Right before Christmas and Thanksgiving, this is absolutely cruel.
