I feel this
You wasted your career? You’re only an S.C. lots of room to run. Go do cyber. God knows how useful your past experience will be in the future. It might be a total home run.
It’s not exactly that simple. Don’t get too caught up at looking at my current title. I am in the process of making a switch so I had to delay becoming a manager for some time. changing from financial to cyber isn’t exactly simple when you have responsibilities and have to manage getting decent pay to match your prior experience.
it's easier to be cyber consultant when you understand what is at risk ( Financials, PII, Business processes, etc..) and how you can mitigate the risk then know how to mitigate risk but not fully understand what's at risk.
use that in your interview for any tech security position, I'm sure the interviewer will get a hard on for this.
as far as getting cyber related experience, get a CompTIA Security+ certificate. then you can look at CISM, CISSP but Sec+ should get you in the door.
GL and feel free to DM for more unsolicited advice.
By financial consulting, do you mean wealth management? If so, that’s still great soft skills to mesh with your cyber work - especially since most cyber projects have clients on edge (they’re on the hot seat from a breach or they’re nervous about an assessment).
What’s preventing you from upskilling now?
I wouldn’t necessarily call doing audits for the gov “financial consulting” 😅
