If a small specialized lit group gets poached by another firm, is it bad to join their group at the already-established firm they went to? They are building it out at the established firm and looking for associates at other firms for now, but not sure if folks have experience with that. Seems like a good way to pivot into a specialty, but worry about the risk too.

Do you pay out of pocket on insurance premiums at your firm? My wife may leave her job to stay home and we’re on her insurance. My firm told me we’re $750/pay period or $18k/yr. that sounds absurd.

Wrapping my head around the equity piece of an offer. Is the equity you are granted in dollars converted to shares right away? So if the stock goes up or down, the totally dollar amount in equity granted when you sign might not be what you actually get over the first four years?

In my company it seems like it’s a white boys club where and they just promote white ppl because they’re white. And then they have a lower bar for promotions for minorities (traditional minorities likes Hispanics and African Americans). Meanwhile they make Asians do all the work. Anyone deal with this before: I inherited a severely under developed team including a sr analyst who clearly was doing the bare minimum, if that. Over the last 6 months I have had to coach him and correct simple mistakes in his work and recently it got so bad that I told him he would receive a low rating in his evaluation. If you notice that a junior associate on your team has over-billed, how would you handle it?
