We usually book travel for the candidates. I would ask if they prefer to book it or if they prefer you to book it and save the receipts.
That will prompt them to request the personal details they need to book it or spell out the process for reimbursement if you do it.
Honestly save yourself the hassle and ask them to book it. Saving receipts doesn’t help if they end up ghosting you (it’s happened to some of my friends)
Thank you! I’ve been so jaded by the interview process that this is my main concern. They seem like decent, communicative people so far, but then again everyone always is until they aren’t...
I’ve moved states for jobs several times. Never have I been asked or expected to buy my own ticket and then reimbursed. It’s customary that they book it. Just mention it if you’re unsure.
Yes. Ask them how travel will be booked for you and how to submit expenses beyond what is pre-paid.
Have them book it
Agree for sure. (Class move too.) Tell them the travel schedule that works best for you, ask them if they have all the info they need, and thank them profusely. Let them feel bad about bringing up you booking/paying for your travel to them.
Yes. Its weird if they havent offered.
Did they reimburse you for the first round? If they did, talk to that person.
If they didnt, there must have been some weird reason why. Remind them this second round isnt like whatever that was.
Oh gotcha. Well if theyre saying theyd like to meet you in person, its just kind of a given that a place would pay for your travel. Id agree this is a red flag as far as them offering any perks or great money for full time. A place is supposed to be “all about our people,” etc—if theyre screwing you on this now (and how much are we talking about here, like 1000 bucks total?), Id say its a good indicator theyd be okay with Fing you elsewhere.
Update: I’ve been told they won’t be covering any travel expenses. Is this a red flag? Do I go anyway? This is a huge inconvenience for me because I’d be missing out on work (I’m currently freelancing) and they want me to fly out in two days so last minute flights are super expensive...
Yeah, I’m willing to accept that risk. I’m excited about the position but I’d rather wait for the right job than rush into one that will cut corners down the line.
Yes
Never pay upfront and expect reimbursement. If they’re a legit agency ask them to handle. Just send them your preferences
