Let's see. You agreed to something and now you want to back out of it. How about ACN says "we said 2 years but we have been really nice to you so can we make it 3 years with no penalty?"
#millennialthinking
Eh, I kinda agree with D1 after reading the thread - OP sounds like they didn't want answers, just to argue that they shouldn't have to pay back the bonus
Op has a JD from the Trump University of Contract Law. You are expected to do great things. That is why you were hired and not fired. You can gather as many anecdotes as you want, but it is black letter law. Don't try to justify your breaking a contract based on advice from a message board. Own your decision.
Yup
Also since we are on the topic of relative wealth, please give every homeless person you see $10. As you said it's a bigger deal to them so you _should_ give it up. Right? #oplogic
I see. Everyone... please help op by providing examples of contract violations that were not enforced. Go!
It just seems silly in cases where the sign on bonus is change in the big scheme of things. In my case it would be around 7.5K.
Like you said, 7.5k is nothing in the big scheme of things. So just pay it. No big deal, right?
Double down, quit and then splurge on something
It's more likely that you win the lottery while getting struck by lightening than to not have to pay that bonus back
At ACN you'll have to sign a promissory note during the exit process
Anyone actually have experience with this?
Not personally but know people who have left and had to pay it back
Also know someone who had to pay it back when they left but the new employer ponied up.
Try to defer your new offer until it is vested and quit with your holidays as part of your employment on the tail end so you can start earlier while technically employed (and vesting)
If they were being really nice to me wouldn't they shorten the vesting period? #stupidoldman
True... but it's a bigger deal to me than my firm.
Therefore I would like them to play nice for all the great things I did for them. Seriously though some anecdotes please.
Well that wasn't helpful (again)... and here I thought your responses were getting better. The question is whether I will be compelled via legal action vs. owning up to my decisions. I have no interest in considering the latter, but I appreciate your unsolicited thoughts in that arena.
Had a coworker who had to pay up the signing bonus with only two months left on the year-long contract
