I have been in client facing wealth management as an advisor for 10 years. I haven’t built a book of business because I’ve worked for mostly discount brokers (Merrill edge, TDA, Etrade). This is twice now in back to back weeks my boss has asked me where the disconnect was in our communications because I didn’t deliver on what “was asked”, even though I know damn well what was asked and what was done were the same thing. One key mistake I made while trying to get into PM was to tailor my resume bullet points towards *proving* I was a PM (I did user research! I defined the product vision!) vs. explaining what exactly I did. More lessons learned / tips and tricks 🔗 below.
