I was let go on March 13 of this year. The first thing I did was tell my partner and then I put on my sandals and I walked to the beach. I spent the whole afternoon waking and breathing in the salty air. It was a Friday so I did the weekend plans I had and then Monday I updated my LinkedIn and my resume and filed for unemployment.

I'm sorry you lost your job, but you handled it the best way possible -- didn't panic, took some time for yourself, and then worked toward ensuring a continued income while you did what you need to do to find something new. Good luck!

I took a deep breath, prayed, had a 30 minute pity party, talked to God again and said I would follow his path. I took it as if he was protecting me and that this wasn’t the place for me anymore. I realized he was answering my prayers in a form or way I didn’t expect.

I did not cry, but I did panic. I immediately filed for unemployment and then got up the very next day and kept my same work schedule and job searched as though I was still going to work. I still haven't had luck, but I am not giving up.

Who was your lawyer and where do you live. I'm having trouble getting somebody to take my case. I worked at the company for 15 years. No warning no severance pay no nothing!!

Retire.

Yup. I'm 67. I've already told my boss I'm retiring next year, but if he were to fire me today I would just retire. Ain't nobody interested in hiring people our age!

I could feel the situation at work at changed after I returned from surgery. The office had a high turnover rate with recruiters quitting every 2 months average. I started looking before it came to a head. I think management thought I was going to quit with my surgery. The expectations for anyone to stay is low. The day I left, I had opened the office written my notice and was going to pack. The regional manager set off the security alarm. I continued to pack my things until someone arrived. I handed in my notice, left and happily started a new search. What a toxic environment.

As a staffing company they get good ratings online by pushing their " employee placements" to write reviews for the company. Be aware of how reviews can be misused by management in a company.
Thankfully I found an amazing job.

Yesterday I was let go.
First, I notified my fiancé.
Second, I cried in my home office.
Third, I reactivated my unemployment account with the state.

In the meantime, all I could think was, “Here we go again.” My mood dropped lower than I expected, and it took a lot out of me.
But even in that headspace, I managed to apply to three positions before finally shutting off my computer.

definitely file for unemployment first - I wouldn't want to miss out on any eligibility or payments. And there are a lot of hoops to jump through to become eligible.

Not in PA.

I would sleep the first day and just allow my body to rest. I am so tired, now. Once I rested, I would file unemployment then start looking. I want to be intentional when I find my next job. I am so tired of being tired. I did not get "sent home" during Covid, I had to work more in our shortage. And it has been full steam ahead since. I'm sure finances would be scary but I have my terminal benefits and my 401k to tie me over for awhile.

I would apply for unemployment and begin to update my resume,

I would start a business right away especially when you’re young and healthy. That’s the best! There are a lot of people who are willing to help you with the success.

I hope you broaden your thinking and realize that you may just be ageist, which is never good, especially for an HR professional.

Apply for unemployment as I have before when a contract job is not renewed. Thinking of taking a break at least through the end of summer. I am SO tired of looking!

I work as an AGM in a busy restaurant. Been working there for just over a year, and haven't had a single raise. Should I try to negotiate a raise or look for other opportunities?

The split is around 50% transactional and 50% lit.

First time poster here!

After spending 4 years as a mid-level ops manager, I tried to break into HR through talent acquisition. Now after 6 years in TA, I've had a hard time getting out of it. My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

I'm testing SPHR in June. Any advice for securing the type of role I'm aiming for?

Can provide more details if needed, but if an employee is constantly coughing at work (small retail establishment), is it okay to ask them for a doctor's note stating they aren't contagious? They're claiming it's due to allergies, but I've gotten several confidential concerns from employees and customers alike due to the current enviornment.

I’m currently working with a senior level HR candidate. This individual has a doctorate in business with a focus in HR, her SPHR, Federal, and private sector experience at the singer level, and has a fabulous personality. I’m curious is anyone else having difficulties play some candidates like this? At this point I’m starting to think it’s racial or her sex based of the lack of interest in this candidate. Any thoughts?

I am looking to make a career change to HR. I currently make 75K as a sales and development coach. I had a recent offer for a state government position in a talent acquisition role but I’d be taking a $25K pay cut. I am extremely over qualified for the position but it could possibly be a stepping stone and gives me the time to acquire SHRM certifications and possibly start taking classes to get my MBA. My question is those currently in an HR role, would this move make sense to you?
