If you won the lottery tomorrow, would you still practice medicine? Someone in our town recently hit it big and it made me wonder if I'd still have the motivation and drive to continue my career if money wasn't a factor.

No, I wouldn't. I might cut back to 5-6 days a month and try to practice in underserved areas.

Betrayed trust in systems that don’t show their cartel-like principles makes the question troublesome. Because I still serve, it is because I love our planet, and the many aspects our shared science works to keep this planet and it’s caretakers healthy. Slavery, disrespect and abuse -not acceptable. Had I understood the mountain -climbing risks beforehand, would have found a wiser path to make a positive difference. No regrets;not bitter-reality of intentional abuse wounds.

I feel this statement deep in my bones. And totally agree with you.

Like the witch in the old Bugs Bunny cartoon… all you would see is a poof and flurry of hair pins and magically I’m outta here.

I can really use some direction. My background, I've worked 2 years in strategy and am currently coming off an exhausting year 2 in investment banking. I didn't particularly enjoy either role and am not interested in moving over to the buy-side or some monotonous FP&A role. Everybody says there's exit-ops aplenty, but I find myself with less options and even more picky than I did as an ambitious T2 undergrad student. Where do I go from here?

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time
