If you work for a firm who primarily deals with federal contracts, should you be looking to jump ship now before the new administration comes in?

With DOGE, Ramaswamey has said there will be "massive cuts" to federal contracting so my gut is saying it's a very bad time to be employed at places like Accenture... And maybe it's better to be proactive in finding a new job and not compete for jobs against everyone who gets RIF'ed when Federal revenue streams dry up.

That is pretty much a nothing department that trump made up to get Elon and the Indian guy off his back

likefunny

Coz I know Elons name and that guy will never be important enough to remember his

Remember when Elon said Teslas would have full self driving by end of 2017? DOGE is like that. So no, don’t worry about it

likefunnysmart

I’ll believe these cuts when I see them!

like

Well, for the record, I said all along Everest was never gonna happen!

funny

I'm not worried at all. Funding cuts proposed by the DOGE commission will have to go through Congress and that's not even remotely close to a sure thing.

Even if funding cuts do go through, the feds can do very little without contractors these days and agency realignments, reprioritizations, etc will all provide substantial opportunities for new work.

like

I dont think thats the idea. Its to cut flab and departments that has abundance of employees than required. He said some depts will just vanish. Might be combined with another dept.

like

If cuts happen, it’ll be within the federal workforce so they can tout having slashed government bloat. This will result in even more contracting opportunities as the workforce will have been reduced, but the workLOAD will remain. In DoD’s case, we need to rebuild our military, which can’t be done without massive overhauls to the Federal Acquisition Regs and their department/agency supplements. You still need a KO to award contracts and buy the things the DoD needs. Business is about to be BOOMING! And changing all the contracts to fixed price will allow for MASSIVE profit margins…gonna be wild🤑

likefunny

Services have been decimated by mass exoduses of active duty due to Covid mandates which has been coupled with under-recruitment. Our military ranks are dangerously low, and our unmanned capabilities need to advance faster. That’s where the rebuild needs to happen. People & Tech.

People give these buffoons too much credit. As with everything Vivek has ever been involved in (check his “career” in biotech), all this hype will soon be revealed as nothing but smoke and mirrors. Nothing will change except for his ego inflating even more

like

IF it happens it will take years. And in the mean time, the work still needs to get done.

Not to mention laying off thousands of government employees and contractors could trigger a recession and nobody wants that.

Plus, Elon has 6 other companies to run and aspirations for Mars, he’s a busy guy.

As soon as a cut is proposed, assorted members of both the House and Senate will object because their state or district will be hurt by some cut.

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time

I'm a corporate recruiter with 3 years of experience. Finishing my degree in HRM 5/2022. I'm thinking of getting my SHRM -CP shortly after graduation.

I'm not sure of where to go after that, but I doubt I will stick with recruiting or my current firm.

Has anyone here started off in recruiting and branched out to other HR functions? Do you like your new role? Do you wish you stuck with recruiting?

So I work for a small company as a SEM/Director… which in my world just means I am really Lead Developer, Part BA and part product owner as well as reviewing the devs. I came up in this company starting at about SE3 of 5 so the position is just kind of what I made it. I have recently been getting interest from some larger companies like Amazon. Long preamble to ask, what are the day to day responsibilities/expectations of an SEM at a FAANG?

Anyone here who made the exit from Big 4/MBB consulting to a VC? If so, I’d love to hear about how the experience is so far. (Not to mention the WLB and comp!) I’m considering a career change but have no one in my network I can go to for insights. Thx! 🙏🏾

Made a career pivot to another agency. During the interview we talked about how it may start as initially a "step backwards" (pay/benefits) but has potential for more long term growth. First day was yesterday. Had no communication about when or where to show up, sat in an empty office for about half an hour before a couple people finally showed. No phone call or email. Sent an email to the founder, no response. I could easily get my old job back if wanted.

What would you do in this situation?
