We need more teachers down here in AZ! If you're in the area, or moving to the area, or even thinking about moving to the area (😅) feel free to check some of these out and apply. I would recommend going through the schools website, but there are multiple schools hiring! Cannot provide referrals, can provide recommendations for a good place to get a drink to celebrate your new job.

How to feel like you’re not old at 26?
I've worked at the same engineering firm for 4 years. I'm currently making $161k with only a $750 bonus, but excellent vacation (4 weeks, cash out anytime, rolls over indefinitely), 45 hours a week. I have an interview with a recruiter at Guidehouse this week for a Technical Project Manager role. It seems to be focused in the government space and requires a security clearance. What sort of salary and benefits could I expect for this sort of role at Guidehouse?

SRM- "All roles have to be in PMP” ... 😒 Glad I’m realizing now that I shouldn’t be relying on my SRM.
Classmates > new friends > bpm network > luck > pmp.
SRMs are completely and totally worthless. If you’re counting on you’re a to get you on a project you’ll be on the bench for awhile
Your SRM is correct in that all roles have to be posted to PMP at some point, but they do not have to be filled based on people who put themselves in play on PMP. However, if you see a lot of roles for one project, it may be a new project that is getting started and staffing a lot of roles, so could be good to focus there
AP = Associate Partner
SMC = Senior Managing Consultant
Movers and shakers of your practice area. These are the people to be in good graces with
No, reach out to your contacts and talk to them about what’s available and if you can help on their projects or projects they’re aware of.
Make a list of your skills and your interests - because you will be asked that.
In my 5 years at IBM, I only got a project via PMP, once. All others were through my network.
Definitely not. Projects can come from all manner of sources. You should probably focus on pmp and bugging your network for opportunities, while keeping your ears open for anything you hear about in the office. If you have friends from school a couple years ahead, they can be a great resource.
Yeah, sorry to say but SRMs are not as efficient as they should be. I never relied on mine. It’s smart of you to be proactive about this and ask here. 👍🏻
OP - no. Reach out DIRECTLY to Partners, AP’s, and SMC’s in your practice area who actually know what staffing looks like. Introduce yourself and thats how you get on projects. PMP is trash
Alright man, let me drop some knowledge on you. Your BPM should be in charge of placing my you on your first project. People who are saying talk with classmates, network, and and the like aren’t necessarily wrong, but it’s extremely unlikely for the first project. My recruiting class consisted of 450 entry level consultants, some of which were on the bench for 3+ months. They always have a staffing problem with new hires so don’t worry too much about it.
I’ve gotten projects through PMP and sending a note to the contact. BUT obviously this is not the only way! Talk to your network, have people introduce you around, offer to help with sales efforts. Internally, cold emails are completely acceptable and appreciated. If you see someone doing work you’re interested in, just reach out to them! Be ready to explain your interests and relevant experiences (internships, classroom projects, etc) and just be eager to learn and do whatever you can to help out
To be clear, pmp only accounts for < half of the project placements I've seen, but it can give you a sense what is out there
The SRM is only quoting what they understand. Technically for the assignment to be made, it must be in PMP. However you can get your assignment via networking and management chain. The SRM makes the assignment in PMP at the end of the process.
A1, have to ask. AP? SMC’s? I’ve been reaching out directly via email to partners, project leads, and my service area leads.
Still learning the acronyms
No. For one, not all roles are in PMP. That’s the biggest lie since Watson was CEO. I would definitely utilize ALL your resources. Reach out to your SRM, head of your Service Line, BPM, etc. also reach out to older CBD’ers who are in your SA.
