If I were you I'd probably research both non-profit and for-profit models to see what aligns best with your vision. You could look into environmental grants, crowdfunding, and partnering with eco-conscious brands. Networking with others in the space can also help guide you!
I really appreciate your insight
That's a fantastic goal, good for you for wanting to help out! I don't know too much about this space, but I would imagine going the non-profit route is probably best. As far as funding goes, I'd take a look at other similar non-profits and see if you can learn anything about how they operate. Your city or state may also have grants available that this kind of organization might qualify for.
That's a good idea. When I used to do a lot of saltwater fishing people would be encouraged not to dump fishing line in the water. But, a lot of fisherman are slobs, and it is a problem. What you might want to do is contact the local Audubon Society chapter, and other organizations like that. Depending on where you are, there might be organizations concerned with environmental cleanup that could give you some advice. If you want to start a business it's good to do some networking, of course.
You could start a Facebook group and get input or put the challenge out to other divers to join you, and start a volunteer group. Organize a "community" event and get some publicity could get things started. The way Tik Tok is advertising, you could create a for profit "clean the bottom" business, and see what interest it would generate. Starting a 401(C)3 group could get an environmental focused group started as a stepping stone to a for-profit business for you.
