As an entry level consultant in Dallas? You’re in a great position compared to most.

Don’t let this app bring you down. That’s a perfectly reasonable comp package with the info given.

How much experience did you have before that job?

like

Yeah, it’s a balance of joy vs. money. To find out what skills are hot, keep browsing job openings for the work you’re doing (or can do) and titles that go with them. Understand how much those roles pay. If you left now, might have to get lucky getting paid significantly more in such a short time. Next big jump at your levels is usually between 1 to 3 years. Companies will pay though for hot skills. Understand your market value and perhaps when you reach your one year you can hit your company up for a raise (or go to the highest bidder). Salary and talent typically work themselves out.

What type of consulting do you do?

Idk how much you're working but with the info provided so far I'd say you're doing pretty good for yourself! So congrats 😊

With MBA starting salaries/bonuses so high, why don’t more people leave public accounting to go that route? I’m a new manager in a low to mid COL area making $68k. I figured out that the cost of the MBA program plus foregone salary for 2 years would be $211k. I’d think I could more than make up for that. I wonder about their hours and flexibility compared to ours though.

@partners - I have two opportunities. One is to lead a group for a corporation (industry). The other is to join another consulting firm, doing the same work that I am doing now. While the comp will be better to stay in consulting and I do like the idea of becoming a partner one day, I am intrigued with the steady industry role... any advice?

With so many people reportedly leaving consulting, I’m wondering how common is it to leave for less TC? MBB comp $200k+ at 27. Do most people get increases above that or just go to jobs sitting at $150k but that “have better WLB”? *Not looking to include those that switch to industries with intentional disregard about comp (eg public sector, charity, teaching etc).

Recruiter reached out asking what I’m looking for in terms of salary (prior to any interviews) for a role that’s a higher title. Recruiter followed with a salary $X that the role is currently offering. The market has a wide range. Their current salary amount falls about the lower third of market range (smaller agency). What would you do? I’d love to interview but don’t want be bound by anything I say at this stage.

We all weigh exit opps from a comp perspective here and not career growth / trajectory as much. I’m rejecting an offer for 210K TC (110K current TC) because it doesn’t have the growth / trajectory I want from my next role. Tell me I’m not being dumb lol
