If you can get to where you want to go, leave
To me, it doesn't make sense.. you don't wanna be a partner but you might consider going back to a mid tier PA firm. 6 months is not enough time to gage whether the right opportunities will come along. Talk to your counselor about your interests and start networking with people from other SLs.
EY is a bad place to be right now. Lots of people are having buyers remorse including myself. Good luck to everybody currently suffering at this firm. Hang in there! The firm will wake up one day when enough 5's quit.
EY will generally promote you as long as you don't really piss someone off. I've heard regional firms don't promote as quickly. Maybe it's worth it to wait until you get a promotion or at least until your old firm would promote you it you return.
EY 2 I'm either considering returning to my old firm (mid tier) who have already indicated they would gladly rehire me in a heartbeat. Or I'm considering industry if the right opportunity comes along.
What makes you think your future is not at EY? What service line are you in?
EY3 I'd prefer not to answer the service line. But I don't see my future being with EY because I don't want to pursue becoming a partner here. It's not worth it to me. On top of that I'm not getting the experience I expected to get when I joined.
Stay for 2 years. At least.
Or (b) stick it out longer so I don't have a 6-month employment on my resume. That's really my only concern with leaving now is it could look bad on paper. And if (b) is the correct choice, then how long should I stay?
And sorry, I should proofread before posting...
Do you want to go to another PA shop or go industry
EY3. I don't want to be a partner at a B4. I've seen what they do, the demands of the job, and the sacrifices they make. I've also seen partners at my old firm. Don't make as much money but they don't have to make as many sacrifices either. Why does that not make sense?
And if 6 months isn't enough time, then how much time would you say is enough time to gauge? 1 year? 18 months? 2 years?
After 6 months of being at EY, I could tell I made a mistake. After 1 year I started my CPA and decided not to leave until that was finished. It is now 2 years and I can't find what I want outside of here so I'm going with the flow. If you know you don't want this and have the opportunity to go, get out! It's not to say it can't change but I would leave if I were you
Leave. You'll just keep being up happy if not. But also consider why you left your mid tier firm in the first place
Go back to your old firm... looks good and shows you were sought after. Otherwise stay at least two years before moving into industry.
If you have something you can line up leave while you can on your terms. That way when things start changing at EY you’ll have the option of returning.
EY6 what are you implying? Are you aware of certain changes coming down the pipeline at EY?
No, but always the hope that they’ll start making changes to fix the problems there. If you can leave on good terms and go back to a place you like then when/if EY starts addressing some of the things that aren’t too great right now you’ll be able to consider coming back not having burned any bridges or underperforming because you’re so unhappy there.
I was an experienced hire and the first year and a half I thought I made a terrible decision and I was waiting for the chance to jump. Fast forward a year I'm now extremely happy I stayed and never saw myself on the SM track which I'm currently on. Still not sure I'll stay until partner but my suggestion is to at least wait it out a little longer.
