Why not just look for an in-house litigation attorney position? I say this as having thought about the same thing and as much as I’ve come to loathe litigation, I would hate the pay cut even more.
Adding here re the WLB aspect - when I went in house I gained nearly 7 weeks of time off per year that I can actually use because I don’t have a billable hour requirement (we don’t even track hours), so there’s definitely carriers out there that it would make more sense to remain counsel with.
I just did and I work with nothing but former partners. Best decision I made!
One of the companies I’m looking at hires a lot of attorneys so I’m thinking the environment and colleagues would be great. Thanks for sharing your experience.
It was actually a slight pay raise for me, way more benefits, PTO, and less hours when you actually break down billables
This is exactly what I’m thinking. Better benefits. PTO - can you imagine?! Haha
But it’s gonna be so boring and you’ll have 10,000 claims all at one time
The boredom is one aspect that I am concerned about. That and telling outside counsel what to do knowing I could do a better job myself. But I think I could get over it? 🤔
It really depends on what you’re making. I did it under different circumstances, but if the pay cut doesn’t bother you the WLB is substantially better.
How much do you make?
